Do you want to know if your hard disk drive is SSD (Solid State Drive) or HDD (Hard Disk Drive)? Then you are at the right place. So in this guide, you’re going to learn 5 different methods to check if your drive is SSD or HDD in Windows 11.
What is SSD & HDD?
A solid-state drive (SSD) is a new type of computer storage device. SSDs use flash-based memory to replace traditional mechanical hard drives, which is much quicker. Older hard-disk storage technologies are slower, causing your computer to perform slower than it should. SSDs substantially accelerate computers due to their low read-access times and high throughputs. For decades, data was largely stored on mechanical hard drives. Traditional hard disc drives (HDDs) rely heavily on moving components, such as a read/write head that moves back and forth to collect data. As a result, hard disc drives are the most likely computer hardware component to fail.
A hard disk drive (also known as a hard drive, HD, or HDD) is a type of non-volatile data storage device. It is often placed inside a computer, directly connected to the disk controller on the motherboard. More platters are contained inside an airtight shell. A magnetic head, which travels quickly across the platters as they spin, writes data to them.
Internal hard drives are housed in a drive bay, which is linked to the motherboard by an ATA, SCSI, or SATA connection. They are powered by a link to the computer’s power source (power supply unit). The operating system installed applications, and the user’s personal files are all examples of data saved on a computer’s hard disk.

Step 2. Type the following command and press Enter:
Step 3. Once the Command is Executed, it will list the Hard Disk type on your computer under MediaType Column.
Method 5#: Find If Your Drive is SSD or HDD Using Disk Defragmenter
Step 1. Press Windows key + R to open Run. Type,
dfrgui and press enter.
Step 2. Once, the Disk Defragmenter window is shown, look for the Media type column and you can find out which drive is a solid-state drive (SSD), and which one is a hard disk drive (HDD).
