What is Dolby?
Let’s start with some background information. Dolby is essentially an audio compression technology that creates a sound similar to movie soundtracks and compresses it for our watching pleasure at home. It is meant for large rooms and large, cinema-style speakers. All of this is accomplished without sacrificing sound quality.
Difference between Dolby Audio & Dolby Atmos
Dolby Audio – Dolby Audio is a 2D audio technique that improves the sound quality of whatever you’re viewing, whether it’s a sporting event, a streaming movie, or even a DVD or Blu-ray.
Dolby Atmos – Dolby Atmos is a 3D immersive technology that allows a speaker or speaker system to fool your brain into believing you’re surrounded by sound, even if you’re not. It effectively gives you the sensation of seeing a movie in a theatre, where you’re surrounded by speakers even when you’re not.
