There’s a time when you want to customize the Start and taskbar colors but unfortunately, the Windows 11 taskbar is greyed out or disabled and doesn’t let you change the Start and taskbar accent color. The good thing about the Windows OS is that it’s highly customizable. You can set a color for the Start and taskbar and move the Start to left or center.

Furthermore, the Start menu and Taskbar in Windows 11 are set to a bright color scheme by default, but you can alter it to whatever color you desire. While you can always go to dark mode, you can also change the color to any color you like. Changing the accent color for these items, on the other hand, is more complicated since you must be in a particular color mode before the option to alter colors appears in the Settings app.

Step 1. Press Win key+I to open Settings.

Step 2. Click Personalization > Colors.

If the Windows color mode is set to Light, the “Show accent color on Start and taskbar” option gets greyed out. It will only appear if you change your Windows color mode to Dark.

Why is it impossible for me to change the color of my taskbar?

It’s because you’re running Windows in Light Mode. Change Windows Mode to Dark, then select an accent color for the Start Menu and Taskbar. It will then alter the color for both of them automatically. You may also use a theme, which will change the color automatically.
